When is occupational therapy month?

OT Month is celebrated in April to recognize and honor the work of occupational therapists (OTs), occupational therapy assistants (OTAs), and students in the field.

What is occupational therapy?

OT practitioners work with individuals in a variety of settings. They assist people from birth to geriatrics to improve their daily routines and daily occupations. Occupations are things that you need and/or want to do in your daily lives! OTs work to make client centered goals and gear treatment to focus on each person’s needs.

Why is it important? OTs help people:

  • Recover from injury
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Develop skills after developmental delays
  • Live independently
  • Participate in daily activities, from work to self-care to leisure

Where do OTs work?

  • School settings
  • Outpatient settings
  • Skilled Nursing Facilities
  • Inpatient Rehab Facilities
  • Acute Care
  • Home Health
  • Other settings as well such as driving, seating and mobility, and many others.
